What is the Student Aid Fund? The Boothbay Region Student Aid Fund was established as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization in 1964 to provide scholarship assistance to graduates of the Boothbay Region High School. Awards seek to reduce the unmet financial needs of these students attending accredited four-year colleges, community colleges, technical schools, or nursing schools. Using a standardized government formula (FAFSA) to determine the amounts students and families can reasonably pay, these institutions make grants and loans. Often there are remaining unmet financial needs. The Student Aid Fund provides grants, paid to the institutions, to help eliminate these needs for as long as the recipients are in good standing, even through graduate programs. BHRS graduates who return to higher education, even later in life, are eligible. The Student Aid Fund is managed by a volunteer board of directors from the Boothbay region. They work closely with the Boothbay Region High School Guidance Office and oversee an investment manager of the endowment funds. |

What is the goal of the Student Aid Fund? The goal is to provide all BRHS graduates the opportunity to further their educations regardless of family financial resources. These Student Aid Fund awards provide hope to our students from K-12 and can have significant impacts on the quality of lives both in the classroom and in our community because the more education people have, the more opportunities they have. Once awards are made, and as long as students are in good standing, the awards usually continue to be made for as long as the students are in need. Often the awards for 2nd, 3rd, & 4th year studies are greater than those for the first year.
What is the source of funds? |

1) Income from the endowment fund which includes memorial, permanent, and other gifts, 2) on-going annual awards from local businesses and organizations, and 3) receipts from the annual fund drive. ALL GIFTS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE Our Long Range Goal Even with the tremendous yearly support of our community, there is still enormous unmet need. The income from our fund drives, added to the annual earnings generated by the endowment, now provide awards for about one-half of the applicants' unmet needs. For this reason, our long range goals are to double both the endowment and the income from the annual fund drive. |
